3. Equipment & Tool Requirements
- Target Unit: Inkjet / Ink Tank Printer (Epson, HP, or Canon) with removable printhead.
- Cleaning Kit: Printhead Flushing Solvent / 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA), 10ml Luer Lock Syringe with Silicone Tubing.
- Tools: Precision Phillips Screwdriver Set, Anti-Static Tweezers, Lint-Free Microfiber Cloth, Blotting Paper.
- Replacement Unit: OEM Replacement Print Head matching the exact printer model number.
- Safety Gear: Disposable Nitrile Gloves and ESD Grounding Wrist Strap.
4. Step-by-Step Procedure
SECTION A: Safe Removal of Print Head
1. Turn on the printer and open the top access door to allow the printhead carriage to slide to the center replacement position.
2. Unplug the main AC power cord directly from the wall outlet while the carriage is in the center position.
3. Remove all ink cartridges or disconnect damper tubes (for ink tank systems).
4. Release the carriage clamp lever or unscrew retaining screws securing the head bracket.
5. Carefully disconnect the Flexible Flat Cable (FFC) ribbon cables from the rear PCB of the printhead, pulling straight without bending the gold contacts.
SECTION B: Manual Cleaning & Nozzle Unclogging
1. Place the removed printhead on a folded sheet of lint-free blotting paper.
2. Connect the silicone tubing of a syringe filled with warm cleaning solvent or IPA to the ink inlet port of the affected color channel.
3. Apply gentle, steady downward pressure on the plunger. Observe the bottom nozzle plate.
4. A healthy, clear printhead will yield a uniform, fine curtain spray of liquid. If liquid stream breaks, repeat flushing until clear.
5. Gently wipe the gold contact contacts using a swab dampened with IPA. Allow to air dry completely for 10 minutes.
SECTION C: Installation of New / Cleaned Print Head & Alignment
1. Align the FFC ribbon cable precisely with the connector socket on the printhead and press straight in.
2. Lower the printhead into the carriage housing without touching the bottom nozzle face against metal parts.
3. Lock the retaining latch lever firmly and reinstall ink cartridges or ink dampers.
4. Reconnect power cord, turn on the printer, and run a software-based "Head Cleaning Cycle" followed by "Print Head Alignment" via printer driver utility.
5. Perform a Nozzle Check test print to confirm 100% line continuity without missing bands or streaks.
