1. Introduction to Loudspeakers

A loudspeaker is an electro-acoustic transducer that converts electrical audio signals into mechanical sound waves. Alternating electrical current flowing through a coil inside a magnetic field creates vibrations that displace air to produce audible sound.

Core Principle: Electromagnetism & Waves — Electrical current through a moving coil reacts with a permanent magnet field, pushing and pulling a cone to vibrate air particles.

2. Key Components Breakdown

  • Permanent Magnet: Creates a fixed magnetic field surrounding the voice coil.
  • Voice Coil: Fine copper coil suspended in the magnetic gap that reacts to AC audio signals.
  • Diaphragm (Cone): Large paper/plastic surface attached to the coil that vibrates air to generate sound.
  • Spider (Suspension): Holds the voice coil centered precisely inside the magnet gap.
  • Surround: Flexible rubber/foam outer ring securing the cone to the rigid basket frame.
  • Dust Cap: Dome cover protecting the voice coil gap from dust and magnetic debris.
  • Basket (Chassis): Sturdy metal frame holding all structural components together.

3. Speaker Drivers by Frequency

1. Tweeter High Freq

Reproduces high-pitched treble sounds like cymbals and vocals (2,000 Hz – 20,000 Hz).

2. Mid-Range Mid Freq

Handles core human vocal and instrument frequencies (250 Hz – 2,000 Hz).

3. Woofer / Subwoofer Low Freq

Moves large volumes of air for heavy bass response (20 Hz – 250 Hz).
