  • Utilize font effects, colors, and text highlights.

  • Adjust character spacing for precise layout.

  • Format paragraphs with borders and shading.

  • Create and apply custom styles.

2. Requirements

  • Hardware: Personal Computer / Laptop.

  • Software: Microsoft Word or any equivalent Word Processor (LibreOffice Writer, Google Docs).

  • Input: A raw text file or a paragraph of unformatted text (approx. 200 words).

3. Procedure

Phase A: Basic Font Formatting

  1. Selection: Highlight the text you wish to modify.

  2. Font Face & Size: Navigate to the Home tab. Use the dropdown menus to select a font (e.g., Arial) and size (e.g., 12pt).

  3. Styles & Underline: Use the $B$, $I$, and $\underline{U}$ buttons for Bold, Italic, and Underline. Use the dropdown next to $\underline{U}$ for different underline styles.

  4. Effects: Click the small arrow in the bottom-right corner of the Font group to open the Font Dialog box. Here, you can select effects like Strikethrough, Superscript, or Small Caps.

Phase B: Color and Spacing

  1. Font Color: Click the 'A' icon with a color bar to change text color.

  2. Highlight: Use the pen icon (Text Highlight Color) to apply a background color to specific words.

  3. Character Spacing: Open the Font Dialog box ($\text{Ctrl} + \text{D}$), go to the Advanced tab, and adjust Spacing (Expanded or Condensed) by specific point values.

Phase C: Paragraph Enhancement

  1. Borders: Select a paragraph, go to the Paragraph group, and click the Borders icon. Select "Borders and Shading" for custom line widths and styles.

  2. Shading: In the same "Borders and Shading" menu, switch to the Shading tab to fill the paragraph background with a specific color or pattern.

Phase D: Creating New Styles

  1. Format a piece of text exactly how you want it (e.g., Blue, Bold, 16pt).

  2. In the Styles pane, click the "More" arrow and select "Create a Style".

  3. Name your style (e.g., "MyCustomHeading") and click OK. You can now apply this formatting to any text with one click.
