 Aim :- Creating and saving document files using word processing software

1. OBJECTIVES

  • To create a new blank document.

  • To enter text using the keyboard correctly.

  • To save, close, and exit the word processing application.

  • To open an existing document from a storage location.

  • To perform text manipulation using Select, Cut, Copy, and Paste functions.

2. SOFTWARE REQUIRED

  • Operating System: Windows 10/11 or Linux.

  • Application: Microsoft Word (or any compatible Word Processor like LibreOffice Writer).

3. THEORY / CONCEPTS

A Word Processor is an application software used for creating, editing, formatting, and printing documents.

  • The Cursor: A blinking vertical line that shows where the next character will be typed.

  • Clipboard: A temporary storage area in the computer's memory that holds text or graphics that have been cut or copied.

  • File Extensions: MS Word documents are typically saved with a .docx extension.

Step 1: Creating and Typing

  1. Launch Microsoft Word.

  2. Select Blank Document from the start screen or press Ctrl + N.

  3. Type the following text:

    "Information Technology is a diverse field that includes hardware, software, and networking. Digital literacy is essential for modern professionals."

Step 2: Saving and Closing

  1. Click File > Save As.

  2. Browse to your designated folder and name the file Lab_Practice_01.

  3. Click Save.

  4. Go to File > Close to close the document without exiting the program.

Step 3: Opening and Editing

  1. Go to File > Open (or press Ctrl + O) and select Lab_Practice_01.

  2. Selection: Click and drag your mouse over the word "Hardware" to highlight it.

  3. Copy/Paste: Highlight the first sentence, press Ctrl + C, move the cursor to the end of the document, and press Ctrl + V.

  4. Cut/Paste: Highlight the word "diverse", press Ctrl + X, and move it before the word "essential".

Step 4: Exiting

  1. Save your final changes (Ctrl + S).

  2. Click the 'X' in the top right corner or press Alt + F4 to exit the application.

6. OBSERVATION & CONCLUSION

  • Observation: Note the difference between "Save" and "Save As". Observe how "Cut" removes the text while "Copy" keeps the original.
