AIM :- Connecting an Integrated Wired Device to a Wireless Network
Materials Needed:
- Integrated Wired Device (e.g., smart TV, gaming console, desktop computer)
- Wireless Access Point (WAP)
- Ethernet cable
- Wireless router with an active internet connection
- Computer or mobile device for configuration
Step 1: Set Up the Wireless Access Point (WAP)
Unbox the WAP: Take the Wireless Access Point out of the box and ensure you have all the necessary components (power adapter, Ethernet cable, etc.).
- Plug the WAP into a power outlet using the provided power adapter.
Step 2: Connect the WAP to the Wireless Router
- Use an Ethernet cable to connect the WAP to your wireless router.
- Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the LAN port of the WAP and the other end into one of the LAN ports on your router.
Step 3: Configure the Wireless Access Point
Access the WAP Configuration Page:
- Connect your computer or mobile device to the WAP using another Ethernet cable (plug it into the WAP) or connect to the WAP’s default Wi-Fi network (check the WAP manual for the default SSID and password).
- Open a web browser and enter the WAP’s IP address in the address bar (commonly something like
192.168.0.1
or 192.168.1.1
). Refer to the WAP manual for the exact address.
- Enter the default username and password (often found in the manual or on the device itself). Common defaults are
admin/admin
or admin/password
.
Configure Wireless Settings:
- Navigate to the wireless settings section.
- Set the WAP to connect to your existing wireless network (SSID).
- Enter the Wi-Fi password for your wireless network.
- Save the settings and allow the WAP to reboot if necessary.
Step 4: Connect the Integrated Wired Device
Connect the Wired Device:
- Use an Ethernet cable to connect your integrated wired device (e.g., smart TV, gaming console, or desktop computer) to one of the LAN ports on the WAP.
Step 5: Test the Connection
Power On the Wired Device: Turn on your integrated wired device if it’s not already on.
Check Network Connection:
- On the wired device, check the network settings to ensure it has obtained an IP address (this can usually be found in the network settings).
- You can also try to access the internet by opening a web browser and visiting a website.
Step 6: Troubleshooting (if necessary)
- Ensure the WAP is properly connected to the router and that the router is connected to the internet.
- Check the Ethernet cable connections.
- Verify that the WAP is configured correctly with the right SSID and password.
Wired Device Not Recognized:
- Ensure the Ethernet cable is functioning and securely connected.
- Restart the wired device and the WAP.
Conclusion
By following these steps, you have successfully connected an integrated wired device to a wireless network using a Wireless Access Point. This setup allows the wired device to access the internet wirelessly through the WAP, effectively bridging the gap between wired and wireless networks.
