EXPERIMENT - 41 :- INSTALLAION PROCEDURE OF COMPUTER

AIM :- INSTALLAION PROCEDURE OF COMPUTER

Installing a computer involves several steps, from physically assembling the hardware components to installing the operating system and necessary software. Below is a comprehensive guide to the computer installation procedure:

Step 1: Gather Required Components and Tools

  1. Components:

    • Computer case
    • Motherboard
    • CPU (Central Processing Unit)
    • RAM (Random Access Memory)
    • Storage (HDD or SSD)
    • Power Supply Unit (PSU)
    • Graphics Card (if not integrated)
    • Cooling system (CPU cooler, case fans)
    • Peripherals (monitor, keyboard, mouse)
  2. Tools:

    • Phillips screwdriver
    • Anti-static wrist strap (optional but recommended)
    • Cable ties (for cable management)

Step 2: Prepare the Workspace

  1. Clean Surface: Ensure your workspace is clean and free of static electricity.
  2. Organize Components: Lay out all components and tools for easy access.

Step 3: Assemble the Hardware

  1. Install the CPU

    • Open the CPU socket on the motherboard.
    • Align the CPU with the socket (look for the triangle marker).
    • Gently place the CPU into the socket and secure it.
  2. Install the RAM

    • Locate the RAM slots on the motherboard.
    • Open the clips on the slots.
    • Align the RAM module with the slot and press down until it clicks into place.
  3. Install the Motherboard

    • Place the motherboard inside the case, aligning it with the standoffs.
    • Secure the motherboard with screws.
  4. Install the Power Supply

    • Place the PSU in its designated area in the case (usually at the bottom or top).
    • Secure it with screws.

  5. Install Storage Drives:

    • Mount the HDD or SSD in the appropriate drive bays.
    • Secure them with screws or tool-less mechanisms.
  6. Install the Graphics Card (if applicable):

    • Insert the graphics card into the appropriate PCIe slot on the motherboard.
    • Secure it with screws.
  7. Connect Cables

    • Connect the power cables from the PSU to the motherboard, CPU, and graphics card.
    • Connect SATA cables from the motherboard to the storage drives.
    • Connect case fans and front panel connectors (power button, USB ports, etc.) to the motherboard.

Step 4: Initial Power-On

  1. Check Connections: Ensure all connections are secure.
  2. Power On: Connect the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Turn on the power supply and press the power button on the case.
  3. Enter BIOS/UEFI: If the system powers on, enter the BIOS/UEFI by pressing the designated key (usually Del, F2, or Esc) during boot.

Step 5: Install the Operating System

  1. Prepare Installation Media:

    • Create a bootable USB drive or DVD with the desired operating system (e.g., Windows, Linux).
  2. Boot from Installation Media:

    • Insert the USB drive or DVD and restart the computer.
    • Enter BIOS/UEFI and set the boot order to prioritize the installation media.
  3. Install the Operating System:

    • Follow the on-screen instructions to install the operating system.
    • Choose the installation type (e.g., custom or upgrade) and select the drive for installation.
    • Complete the installation process, including setting up user accounts and preferences.

Step 6: Install Drivers and Software

  1. Install Drivers:
    • After the OS installation, install necessary drivers for the motherboard, graphics card, and other peripherals. These can usually be found on the manufacturer’s website or included on a CD/DVD.
  2. Install Software:
    • Install essential software applications (e.g., web browsers, office suites, antivirus).

Step 7: Configure System Settings

  1. Update the Operating System: Check for and install any available updates.
  2. Configure Settings: Adjust system settings according to your preferences (e.g., display settings, power settings).

Step 8: Perform Final Checks

  1. Check Hardware Functionality: Ensure all components are functioning correctly (e.g., sound, graphics, network).
  2. Cable Management: Organize and secure cables inside the case for better airflow and aesthetics.

Step 9: Backup and Maintenance

  1. Create a Backup: Set up a backup solution to protect your data.
  2. Regular Maintenance: Keep the system updated and perform regular maintenance checks.

By following these steps, you can successfully install a computer and ensure it operates smoothly.
