Installing and Configuring Internet on a PC
Objective:
To successfully connect a PC to the internet using both wired (Ethernet) and wireless (Wi-Fi) methods.
Materials Needed:
- A PC (Windows, macOS, or Linux)
- Ethernet cable (for wired connection)
- Wi-Fi router (for wireless connection)
- Internet service provider (ISP) account
- Network credentials (SSID and password for Wi-Fi)
Procedure:
Part 1: Wired Connection
Connect the Ethernet Cable:
- Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on your PC.
- Plug the other end into an available LAN port on your router.
Check Network Settings:

- Select your Wi-Fi network from the list.
- macOS:
- Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar.
- Select your Wi-Fi network from the dropdown.
- Linux:
- Click on the network icon in the system tray and select your Wi-Fi network.
- Windows:
Enter Network Credentials:
- Input the Wi-Fi password when prompted and connect to the network.
Check Network Settings:
- Ensure that the Wi-Fi connection is active and shows as connected.
- You can check the IP address assigned to your device in the network settings.
Test the Connection:
- Open a web browser and try to access a website.
- If the page loads, the wireless connection is successful.
Troubleshooting:
- If you cannot connect:
- Check that the Ethernet cable is securely connected.
- Restart your router and PC.
- Ensure that the Wi-Fi password is entered correctly.
- Check for any network adapter issues in Device Manager (Windows) or System Preferences (macOS).
- Run the network troubleshooter (Windows) or use the Network Diagnostics tool (macOS).
