The following recommendations detail the standard behavior for all personnel working within a laboratory.
- Never adopt a casual attitude in the workshop and always be conscious of the potential hazards.
- Ensure that personal clothing is suitable to the workshop conditions, e.g. Safety
- footwear with steel capping. Thongs or open footwear should not be worn in the workshop area. Singlet’s, tank tops or similar clothing are not suitable for wearing in the workshop.
- Always wear eye protection when using power operated hand or machine tools, or while performing physical tests that could lead to eye damage.
- Use protective clothing and devices appropriate to the type of operation being carried out, giving due consideration to the work being carried out in the vicinity.
- Never run in the workshop or any laboratory.
- Never indulge in reckless behavior in the workshop
- Always exercise care when opening and closing doors and entering or leaving the workshop.
- Do not carry out any work in isolation in the workshop; ensure that at least a second person is within call.
- Do not handle, store or consume food or drink in the workshop.
Do not store food or drink in a refrigerator, which is used to store workshop materials.
- Do not smoke within any university building.
- Regard all substances as hazardous unless there is definite information to the contrary.
- Before any work is carried out in the workshop, permission must be obtained from the Workshop Supervisor. Never undertake any work unless the potential hazards of the operation are known as precisely as possible, and the appropriate safety precautions are adopted. Any flame producing activity is not to commence until the immediate area has been cleared of dusts. Many materials, which are nonflammable in a lump state, become quite volatile when in powdered or dust cloud form.
- Take additional care when carrying or moving any potentially hazardous material or substance.
- Warning signs and barriers are to be erected at entrances to the workshop before any testing is carried out when using materials of an excessively dusty nature, or are toxic or otherwise unpleasant.
- Keep all fire-escape routes completely clear at all times.
- Label all safety equipment and maintain it in good operating condition. Check and inspect safety equipment for correct operation in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and report to workshop supervisor, any requirement for maintenance.
- Ensure that all safety equipment remains accessible to the workshop personnel at all times.
- Keep safety information and emergency procedures prominently displayed at all times in the workshop and each laboratory. Include in the safety information, the telephone numbers of:

નીચેની ભલામણો લેબોરેટરીમાં કામ કરતા તમામ કર્મચારીઓ /તાલીમાર્થીઓ માટે પ્રમાણભૂત વર્તનની વિગત આપે છે.
- વર્કશોપમાં ક્યારેય આકસ્મિક વલણ ન અપનાવો અને સંભવિત જોખમો પ્રત્યે હંમેશા સભાન રહો.
- ખાતરી કરો કે તાલીમાર્થીઓના કપડાં વર્કશોપની પરિસ્થિતિઓ માટે યોગ્ય છે, i.n. સલામતી
- સ્ટીલ કેપિંગ સાથે ફૂટવેર. વર્કશોપ વિસ્તારમાં થોંગ્સ અથવા ખુલ્લા પગરખાં પહેરવા જોઈએ નહીં. વર્કશોપમાં પહેરવા માટે સિંગલેટ, ટેન્ક ટોપ્સ અથવા સમાન કપડાં યોગ્ય નથી.

- ઓપરેશનના પ્રકારને અનુરૂપ રક્ષણાત્મક કપડાં અને ઉપકરણોનો ઉપયોગ કરો, જે નજીકમાં કરવામાં આવતા કામને યોગ્ય રીતે ધ્યાનમાં લે છે.
- વર્કશોપ કે કોઈપણ લેબોરેટરીમાં ક્યારેય ન દોડો.

- દરવાજા ખોલવા અને બંધ કરતી વખતે અને વર્કશોપમાં પ્રવેશતી વખતે અથવા બહાર નીકળતી વખતે હંમેશા કાળજી રાખો.
- વર્કશોપમાં અલગતામાં કોઈ કામ હાથ ધરશો નહીં; ખાતરી કરો કે ઓછામાં ઓછી બીજી વ્યક્તિ કોલની અંદર છે.
- વર્કશોપમાં ખાવા -પીવાની વસ્તુઓનું સંચાલન, સંગ્રહ કે વપરાશ ન કરો.
- રેફ્રિજરેટરમાં ખોરાક અથવા પીણું સંગ્રહિત કરશો નહીં, જેનો ઉપયોગ વર્કશોપ સામગ્રી સંગ્રહિત કરવા માટે થાય છે.
- સંસ્થાની કોઈપણ ઇમારતમાં ધૂમ્રપાન ન કરો.
- બધા પદાર્થોને ખતરનાક માની લો સિવાય કે તેનાથી વિપરીત ચોક્કસ માહિતી ન હોય.
- વર્કશોપમાં કોઈ પણ કાર્ય હાથ ધરવામાં આવે તે પહેલાં, વર્કશોપ સુપરવાઈઝર પાસેથી પરવાનગી મેળવવી આવશ્યક છે. જ્યાં સુધી ઓપરેશનના સંભવિત જોખમોને શક્ય તેટલી ચોક્કસપણે ઓળખવામાં ન આવે અને સલામતીની યોગ્ય સાવચેતી અપનાવવામાં ન આવે ત્યાં સુધી ક્યારેય કોઈ કામ હાથ ધરશો નહીં. કોઈપણ જ્યોત ઉત્પન્ન કરવાની પ્રવૃત્તિ જ્યાં સુધી તાત્કાલિક વિસ્તાર ધૂળથી સાફ ન થાય ત્યાં સુધી શરૂ થવાનો નથી. ઘણી સામગ્રી, જે ગઠ્ઠાની સ્થિતિમાં બિન -જ્વલનશીલ હોય છે, જ્યારે પાવડર અથવા ધૂળના વાદળના સ્વરૂપમાં તદ્દન અસ્થિર બને છે.
- સંભવિત જોખમી સામગ્રી અથવા પદાર્થ વહન અથવા ખસેડતી વખતે વધારાની કાળજી લો.
- અતિશય ધૂળવાળી પ્રકૃતિની સામગ્રીનો ઉપયોગ કરતી વખતે, અથવા ઝેરી અથવા અન્યથા અપ્રિય હોય ત્યારે કોઈપણ પરીક્ષણ હાથ ધરવામાં આવે તે પહેલાં વર્કશોપના પ્રવેશદ્વાર પર ચેતવણી ચિહ્નો અને અવરોધો ઉભા કરવા જોઈએ.
- દરેક સમયે ફાયર-એસ્કેપ માર્ગો સંપૂર્ણપણે સાફ રાખો.
- બધા સલામતી સાધનોને લેબલ કરો અને તેને સારી ઓપરેટિંગ સ્થિતિમાં જાળવો.
- ઉત્પાદકની સૂચનાઓ અનુસાર યોગ્ય કામગીરી માટે સલામતી સાધનો તપાસો અને નિરીક્ષણ કરો અને વર્કશોપ સુપરવાઇઝરને જાણ કરો, જાળવણી માટેની કોઈપણ જરૂરિયાત.
- ખાતરી કરો કે તમામ સલામતી સાધનો દરેક સમયે વર્કશોપ કર્મચારીઓ/તાલીમાર્થીઓ માટે સુલભ રહે છે.
